At KALA we make handmade pieces woven by artisans who manage to give life and continuity to techniques that have been a tradition for years in their families. They work natural fibers through delicate weaving to have our products with a high quality.
The Iraca Palm can be found in handmade products such as bags, shoes, hats, furniture, home decoration and others.
Its process consists of: harvesting, cooking, rinsing, blanching and baking. Then the process of handcrafted raw material begins giving life to our designs.
The fabric consists of different types of stitches such as those that made the fabrics. Many of our designs are created with dyed Iraca, made of natural dyes such as: seeds, leaves, black cedar, among others, and minerals are also used to obtain the colors we see in the pieces made, but chemicals such as aniline are also used.The dyeing process is about cooking the fiber in boiled water and rotating it constantly to ensure that the pieces are dyed in a homogeneous way, then left to dry in the shade.
After the collection, dyeing, drying and assembly processes are completed, the pieces are ready to be distributed and sold to the final consumer. This is how a work of art is created completely woven by hand and using sustainable processes that are respectful to the environment.
